Leading Cleveland Stone Countertop Manufacturing Firm, Rocksolid Surfaces Bought by Local Entrepreneurs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Cleveland, 27 June 2018) A team of two first-cousin entrepreneurs, J.B. and Jim Walsh, has purchased Wood Dimensions and Rocksolid Surfaces, the Cleveland full-line countertop maker renowned for the design, fabrication and installation of granite, quartz, woodwork, and solid surface solutions. The firm, at 4031 West 150th Street, specializes in meeting any type of stone, synthetic or wood surface applications from large commercial projects to intricate, detailed residential work.

The purchase, which became effective March 1, 2018, was the result of an agreement reached by the Walsh cousins with Rocksolid’s founding owner, Tom Rocks. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Rocks began Wood Dimensions and Rocksolid in 1979; the company has two facilities in Cleveland that serve as its major design, fabrication and warehousing centers. Rocksolid employs 80+ skilled workers locally.

“Our fathers owned a manufacturing firm in Lorain County,” President J.B. Walsh said. “It’s just natural for Jim and me to follow in their footsteps. Our philosophy is to concentrate on and grow our core business, invest heavily in our highly skilled work force and the technology to help them, and promote strategic growth through our channel relationships.”

Rocksolid currently offers its products through a network of partners, including kitchen and bath designers, major kitchen retail and fabrication centers, contractors and builders, architects and interior designers and restaurant and hotel chains. Its geographical range is presently focused on northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

“If a customer has a horizontal space need – a counter, a shelf, a medical credenza, any kitchen or bath configuration – we have a solution,” J.B. Walsh said, “in a variety of materials, colors, designs and structures. We design, fabricate, install and warrant our work.”

Rocksolid offers a wide range of materials for its customers, like natural stone such as granite, soapstone, quartz and marble with every stone offering unique colors, patterns and textures. Manufactured solid surfaces such as Dupont® Corian® provide fabrication versatility in addition to color, unique beauty and durability. Eco-friendly materials like Paperstone® and Curava™ offer vivid colors and depth along with sturdiness and strength, and are manufactured from recycled materials.

The Natural Stone Institute (formerly the Marble Institute of America) has accredited Rocksolid as a company that meets the industry’s highest standards for business activities, product knowledge, reliability, fabrication and installation. This accreditation is the result of a rigorous process, including site visits, documentation of best practices and customer recommendations. Rocksolid is the only company in northeast Ohio so accredited and one of fewer than 100 accredited fabricators across the United States.

Rocksolid is also a member of the Artisan Group, an elite assembly of 35 independent countertop fabricators in the US and Canada. The Group is among the first granite fabricators in the world to have achieved full accreditation with the Natural Stone Institute. The organization offers the highest quality granite, marble, soapstone and wood surfaces imported from the best sources around the globe.

The company has designed, fabricated and installed horizontal surfaces for the Veterans’ Administration, the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Indians, PlayhouseSquare, and many more.

A Rocksolid subsidiary, Wood Dimensions, offers custom joinery and millwork for both commercial and residential applications. The subsidiary is a member of Architectural Woodwork Institute, the global leader in architectural woodwork standards, related interior finishes, industry-specific education and networking opportunities.

A complete showroom with a multitude and variety of stone slabs, samples of manufactured solid surfaces and an array of new Kohler® sinks, accessories and bath products is open to the public at the company HQ, 4031 W. 150th Street. Appointments with Rocksolid’s professional designers are encouraged, and can be made by calling 216.251.5509.
